WpBeginner ran a post today outlining on What’s Coming In WordPress 3 and I must say, WordPress users will have some really cool things coming for them.
Some features might not be of much use to normal users, but the majority of the new features will make blogging in WordPress more fun than ever. The most significant change, to me at least is the replacement of the default theme from the much over-used Kubrick to a brand new one called Twenty Ten (2010)
At the first look, the theme reminds me of the very popular Cutline Theme and it spots some really cool features if what is shown is what we will be getting. It features rotating header images and drop down navigation menus. Theme modders like me will be having a filed day modding this theme. I think I can make this theme into something really nice and clean like the Thesis.
Another new feature that is available only in premium Themes like the Thesis is the improved navigation. You can now drag and drop Pages, Categories, and Links of your choice into the navigation bar. This feature is included in the core of WordPress 3 so it should work with all Themes that are compatible. At present this feature is only available of your Theme is coded with it.
Wait, there more for Theme mod freaks. You can change your background image with a click of the mouse. You just have to add a single line of codes to your functions php if your Theme does not support this feature. Cool!
There is a slew of other new features that will make life of a new WordPress user very much easier. Check out the post at WPBeginner for the complete list.
