To sell anything online by yourself, a shopping cart script is a must have. Without that, I really do not know of any other way which lets you get paid and complete the transaction. There are many such scripts that you can buy and use, but the one I am familiar with is The 7 Dollar Script. It is a very simple script that works beautifully and it can be incorporated into your WordPress blog with ease. Some may prefer more sophisticated scripts which lets them add a basket and such, but in so far, I have not found the necessity to use or go learn how to use such a script.
The 7 Dollar Script should be enough for all amateurs like you and me to start selling some products of our own in our blogs and keep all the earnings to ourselves. It is better than selling affiliate products where we only earn a commission, IF we have a product that sells that is. Else it will not be worth the trouble and we should stick to affiliate products that has a proven sales record.
The 7 Dollar Script consist of ready made templates and files that have been coded in such a way that when someone clicks on the “BUY” link, they will automatically be sent to PayPal where they will make the payment. After successful payment has been made, depending on the configurations made by you, they are either sent back directly to the download page where they download the products or they might directed to a squeeze page where you can persuade them to join your mailing list.
They can then be also sent to a One Time Offer page where you can sell them more items. Of course they are provided with links to the product download if they decide not to buy anything else from you. If they do, they are again sent back to PayPal to pay for the extra items. Once payment has been made, this time they will be directly sent to the download page where they will download all their purchases.
To keep things simple and lean, I will only be discussing about doing a basic transaction using our WordPress blog. It will only involve sending the buyer to PayPal and once payment is made, they are then sent directly to the download page. There will be no other sales pitch to milk our buyer for more than anything other than the product they had intended to buy in the first place. I feel this is better for our reputation and not be seen as another money grabbing marketer. Remember, we are doing it with our blogs and we might have many friends around.
Now that you have a rough idea on how this shopping cart script works, in the upcoming post I will be discussing on how to edit the templates in the 7 Dollar script to make it work within our WordPress blog. I will also discuss about making a simple template to compliment with the WordPress Theme that we are using. Hopefully you have the script ready else you will not understand what I am talking about.

Hi, anyone have ideas or experience with what shopping cart templates or plug-ins work best with the Neoclassical WP theme? Thanks for your ideas. Jan
