Today I join hands with 7,532 blogs from 139 countries with a combined readership of 11,480,067 Readers in Blog Action Day 2009. This year, we are trying to bring consciousness about the climate change. Exactly two years ago, I asked, Does Blogging Effect The Environment. Now two years later, I am pondering again, Do Bloggers Contribute To Climate Change.
It has been a matter of fact that indeed Planet Earth is getting warmer by the day. Scientist and environmentalist has been raising their voices of the consequences this planet will face should the situation deteriorates further. Some even predicts that the total destruction of Earth by the year 2012 which is very graphically depicted in the upcoming film, aptly titled 2012. It shows how our planet broke into a million tiny pieces eradicating the whole planet from the universe. The horrific scenario could very possibly come true if no exerted efforts are made to protect this planet from further changes in the climate.
The inhabitants of this planet have taken for granted that the Earth is theirs for the taking and nothing will ever happen to take away what they have painstakingly built over the centuries. They abuse it in whatever way they can think of for their own selfish means, without any consideration that their actions might just be the cause of one major upheaval that could bring an end to every thing and every one.
Scientist have proven time and again that the Earth is dying a slow death. However, humans being the self centered creatures that they are, have refuted these claims. They refuse to believe that Earth is getting sicker by the day. Even when earthquakes and typhoons are getting stronger with each impending one, even when tsunamis have killed thousands, they never looked at the fact that they might have in some way or another contributed to these calamities. To them, it is an Act Of God, a natural disaster that they are no party of.
As a blogger, are we in a way contributing to the climate change and the warming of our planet? You bet. The amount of heat generated by a laptop could well make you many a nice meal of half boiled eggs for the whole day. At any given moment, tens of millions of computers are running all over the world. Combined, the heat generated would even outshine the brightest star.
Bloggers are only the tip of the iceberg, the end of the food chain. With hundreds of blogs being started everyday, the demand for computers and accessories increases by the minute. Factories adds fuel to the fire by operating at full capacity to meet these demands with the latest innovations and designs. Transport companies makes extra trips to cater for the increased shipments.
While we are thrashing away at our keyboards, creating blog after blog, post after post to make us more money, did the thought that we are making the world warmer ever cross our minds? Never. Humans are selfish. We are selfish. Bloggers are selfish. I am selfish.
Wait till 2012 comes. Even then, in face of certain death, we will not be admitting that we, our very own selves, brought destruction unto ourselves. Before we see that tidal wave hit our homes for the last time, before we witness that huge pile of concrete crashing down on us and our loved ones, our last words before we die will still be, “Oh my God! Why are you doing this to us?!”

Well, yes climate change is very important, but the world isn’t going to end in 2012! The consequences are still very serious though. Here’s my post for Blog Action Day:

Everyone else go make one too!
People are ignorant of what they are doing to nature. They forget that humans are part of nature. Unless we are aware of our sins to nature, our destruction is inevitable.
I wouldn’t worry about 2012. That year will pass without incident as have the last batch of silly “end of the world” prophecies. What we really need to be worried about is the long, slow, agonizing death we face at our own hands. Every respectable scientist on the planet agrees the WE ARE RESPONSIBLE for the plight of the earth. That debate is long paste and the naysayers still holding on to old fiction simply don’t have the capacity to move on. Some people still think smoking isn’t dangerous and no amount of education and science will convince them otherwise.
