Can Successful Internet Marketers Be Successful Bloggers?

There are famous bloggers who makes tens of thousands monthly from their blogs and their Internet Marketing efforts. Then there are faceless Internet Marketers who also makes tens of thousands monthly but somehow could not make much as a blogger. Now what gives? Does not blogging and Internet Marketing involve the same basic principles that can be applied vice versa?
What are the basic principles? The most basic one of course is knowing how to get traffic. All successful Internet Marketers knows how to get traffic to their sites. They can get thousands of visitors to a static single page site that is devoid of contents. Why then are they not getting the same amount of traffic to their blogs? Maybe I should say, yea they can get the traffic, but it is traffic that do not stick around long enough to make a blog successful.
You see, Internet Marketers are traffic exploiters. They want traffic that comes in, buy whatever they are selling and get the hell out. They are not into traffic that comes for well written articles that keeps them lingering around for hours and coming back for more every other day.
Many Internet Marketers actually takes pride in the fact that they do not have a successful blog. A fact that I find rather amusing and bewildering. The argument is a blog or rather a personal blog cannot make money and is a big waste of time which is better spent starting another product site which will make them another $100 bucks monthly. It was an argument that I used to agree upon and really did spent much of my time on. But I am getting really tired of it.

The scenarios changes so fast that it became stressful. A site that does well for a while simply fades away into oblivion due to so many reasons, whether apparent or otherwise. If you have hundreds of them sites and you depend of them for your income, you will know what I mean. It becomes a big heartache. You have to keep building and building like a never ending merry go round just to have enough number of sites that will bring you the income you have targeted for yourself. Not all that you have built will be successful. In fact, the majority will fail.
So instead of spending time building sites that will fail 7 or 8 times out of 10, would it not be better to spend time to build up one single successful site or blog that could possibly bring you all the income combined from all your successful sites? It is something that I have been pondering about and I think something that would be doing.
Building backlinks to one single site via comments with my true identity sure beats building backlinks for hundreds of sites with an alias. Making friends as a true person sure is surely easier than making friends with a mask on. Going after a fixed number of key word terms is definitely easier that going after hundreds of keywords for hundreds of sites.
One thing I realized after I changed my thinking logic is, when your site gets established with an authority over the topic you are blogging about, people starts noticing you. I am beginning to get inquiries about advertisement spaces. Though I have rejected all of them due to one reason of another, it is an encouraging sign for I do have ambitions to make an income form this blog in time to come.
Coming back to the question, Can Internet Marketers be Successful Bloggers? I think they can. If they put all their Internet Marketing skills and their time into one single blog, they can and will have a super successful blog that will bring them a full time income for a very long time to come. With the skills and shrewdness that I see in some of my Internet Marketer friends, god knows what they can achieve if they have a successful blog with thousands of loyal readers lapping up their words.

Agreed. There are some people efficient of doing both, creating good content, making visitors and turning them as users or usual readers. But, someone who is devoid of any of the above behaves as Blogger, or an Internet Marketer.
Personally I see bloggers and Internet Marketers are two different breed. Another thing is I don’t believe in having more than 10 blogs at one time. It is time wasting and energy draining. I prefer to focus on just a few sites which I can monitor them well. I have more time making amendments, regular updating, etc. I prefer quality to quantity.
How about a quantity of quality blogs? LOL.
Buthen, 10 high quality blogs that can bring an income if say $300 monthly is more than enough for you and me.
This is something I constantly struggle with myself…sometimes I am a blogger, sometimes I am an IM’r. I’m going to make my #1 blogging goal for the next year to find the perfect balance between the two.
Well Chelle, I sure hope you find what you are looking for.
I love your style of writing and I enjoyed reading this article and the twitter one and the outdated blog tips one. And do you know why? Cause they are so true! I am a sports/fitness freak, have been playing in amateurs teams (soccer) and have started around 3 months ago building a quality blog with free articles, tips, predictions etc for the fans out there. And you are so right about the outdated tips! And twitter …. I don’t even wanna talk about it, I never liked it but I started using it because it drove traffic. But you are right most of the followers write to you something like “Thanks for the follow! You are interested in . and the link of their i-net business or scheme.
Hi Mitco,
Frankly for me, traffic from twitter is minimum. It would take re-tweets by some power tweeterers like shoemoney to have any affect and even then, it will only last a few hours so overall, it does not help much.
You are right, but for a brand new site, don’t you think when it gets your traffic rank up, will help out your blog get further up in google? At least when I think about it seems like it.
No. traffic rank does nothing, except maybe boost our egos a little bit.
Backlinks with the right anchor text gets the blog up in Google
Shoot =) I always thought traffic rank is part of the PR calculations. But you do know no one wants to link especially to new sites =). It’s like you have to have 1 already successful site to link your new ones there to get the boost.
Mitco,
A high PR as per the green toolbar also does nothing in terms of traffic.
The rank you hear so often is the ranking in the Search Results page that people goes crazy over. In this case, it is the lower the better.
It is the ability of the blogger to get their blogs appearing in the first position in the Search results whenever someone searches for information about the topic he is blogging about.
Yes it does help if you have an established site so you can harvest a link to your new site. That’s why people build for themselves something called a link farm where they can get links for themselves.
However that is not a method propagated by “straight” bloggers. The legit way of getting the required links for yourself is to submit articles to article directories which allows you to embed a link or two in your articles.
Then there are also legitimate link directories where you can also submit your post and your blog.
There are so many methods to get links if you read about link building.
I have about 20 articles submitted in few article sites. However google webmaster doesn’t detect any of them so far. Does it take time for them to detect the backlinks?
