Check Your Post Title before Publishing

Wordpress is funny or maybe I should say, complicated and I guess I will never ever going to understand the way it works. Not that it matters whether I know the intricacies of this blogging platform because it’s user friendly enough for me, but to know how the codes work would greatly enhanced my blogging pleasure.

Take for instance the post title. We have to be really careful not to have grammatical or spelling error in it before we hit the “publish” button. We also should not leave it blank when we publish. Once it is published, the permalink to that post will never correct the error no matter how many times you edit your title after that. If you look at the title of my last post you will realise that the permalink to that post is different from the title. That was because I did not realize I had mistakenly typed a different word before publishing it. I edited the post title after realizing it but as it is, the permalink is stuck with the old spelling.

On the other hand, if you forget to title your post before publishing, the permalink will be shown by the number of that post rather than the title.

The permalink of a post plays the most important part in Google Search. SEO gurus teaches us to choose the right method of displaying our permalinks so that Search Engines can find that page easily, especially if the title contains good keywords, so displaying a Title with no spelling mistakes or errors will improve hits from those Search Engines.

Shaolin Tiger is right. One can easily change the permalink when editing the post. Then again, it is always crucial to get it right the first time.

But I do understand what you mean. For most Wordpress newbies, when a person uploads a new blog entry. It automatically pings search engines/crawlers to check out your new entry. In this case, if you’ve pinged them and then change your permalink. It’ll raise their flags because they can’t find your entry via your old permalink. Just my 2 cents.

Shaolintiger is right.

Besides, permalink is not as important as you think.

Yes Hinching, I tried changing the permalink when I edited the post title, but when people tried accessing the page with the new link it returns a 404 error.
