Most of you should already have created a sitemap for your WordPress blogs, so this is for the benefit of those who have just started.
First download the Sitemap Generator plugin. From your WP dashboard go tp Plugins – Add New and in the Search Box, type in XML Sitemap. When the results open just click Install. Activate it after installation.
Sign in to your Google Account via the Google Homepage. Click “MyAccount” on your top right corner. Look for “Webmaster Tools”. When that page opens, Add your site and click OK. You be then asked to verify your site. Click “verify your site”. Under ” Choose verification method” choose “Add Meta Tag”. You will be given a string of meta code. Copy that code. Open a new window or a new tab, Go to presentation- theme editor-header.php. Paste that code in your header file as instructed . Don’t worry you won’t screw up anything. Update your file.
Go back to the Google “verify your site” page. Click “Verify” If you have done everything correctly, you will be brought back to the Webmaster Tool Page. Under “Site Verified?” you will see a green tick which means your site have been verified. Now click, “Add a Sitemap”. At the “Add Sitemap” page, choose “Add General Web Sitemap” Under the 3rd, Option, paste your Sitemap URL that you have generated when you activated your Sitemap Generator plugin. Click, “Add Web Sitemap” Tada.. you have successfully created a Google sitemap for your blog.
It will take a day or two for Google Spiders to crawl your site. After that you can check if your pages have been indexed by Googles and a whole lot of information.
Hope what I have written is clear enough for you guys.
