Does RSS Feeds in our Blog help?

by Costa on April 8, 2007

Blog gurus always insist that feeds to blogs plays a very important part in making the blog successful. So in every blog of mine, I add feeds, just because the experts says it helps. Till today, I am still blur as to how feeds can help in popularising our blogs, but since experts says it helps, I just have to follow. There’s nothing to lose anyway, right?

According to whatisrss.com,

“RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing web content.”

The benefits of RSS are:

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site’s email newsletter.

Why you need RSS Feed?

Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use.

Okay, from this information, I gather that if you have a very informative blog, and readers who wants the information that you are able to offer, will subscribe to your feeds. So you have a pool of really loyal readers. Now what I don’t get is, how are these readers benefitting the blogger. They will just log in to their Feed Reader, get what they want and that’s about it. It’s like getting someone to cut out all the interesting news from a newspaper, discard all the advertisements and classifieds and just enjoy the core news. Is that beneficial to the Newspaper? From a blogger who tries to make some money through advertisements on is blog, is RSS Feeds doing him any good? Will the oh-so-loyal reader take the time to visit your blog and maybe make a purchase from your advertisements? Wouldn’t it be better if the loyal reader comes to his actual blog instead?
