How I failed to enable my sidebar widgets.
I thought I found the answers to my woos when I found this information at the Blog Herald this morning. It is suppose to be a 10 minute job, but I ended up messing with my Theme for 3 hours because first I did not read the instructions carefully and when I thought I got it right, the sidebars went all the way to the right all jumbled up.
I followed all instructions but sometimes when people with a deep knowledge writes these tutorials, they don’t take into account noobs like us who knows next to nothing about codes, expecting everyone to understand what they wrote because to them it is just too simple.
Anyway, after doing what was told to do but yet failed, I did a very nooby thing. I tried the idiotic way hoping I would get lucky. I have a copy of the 3 column widgetised Cutline Theme, so I went and copied the sidebar file from there and dumped it into this theme. Then I did the same for the functions file. I replaced two files just like that. Raw and uncooked. I thought it would work because these 2 themes were from the same guy so i figured it won’t differ too much. Both the themes does look a little bit similar.
What I got after that foolish act was a messed up blog that simply refused to load! I tried copying back the old files but since the whole theme would not load, I had no way of accessing those files. As a last resort, I had to upload the whole theme again and re-wrote all the theme’s files with a fresh copy.
It was a frustrating experience, but I laughed at myself. The feeling would have been fantastic if it had worked. Think I will give it another shot once I find the time.
