How To Make A Simple MiniSite Template

For Those who have downloaded the Seven Dollar Secret you would too have gained access to the 7 Dollar Script. As mentioned before, if you have done some digging on your own, you would have noticed that the script contains all the necessary html template and files which can be used off the hook without any alterations. All you need to do is to edit the text and the links, upload them and you are actually ready to sell your products in your WordPress blog.

However it is my preference to change the bland looking template to one that looks something similar to the theme that you are using for the blog that you intend to sell the products in. Using a similar looking template will make you look a lot more professional and legitimate.

The template need not be as fancy as your theme as there will be no need for sidebars or even the footer. All we need is to use the same color theme and of course the same header image. Making a simple template like that will take no more than 15 minutes, using a free html editor. You are of course free to use whatever html editor that you are comfortable with. For this example, I am using the Kompozer which can be downloaded for free. It is almost similar to Frontpage but has less frills and it is very easy to use.

The first thing you must do is to create a new folder in your desktop so we can hold all the modified templates and files that we are going to use. Inside that folder, create another folder and name that folder ‘images’. All the image that you plan to use will be housed in that folder.

After you have done that, grab your header image of your blog and resize it. For this example, I will be using the header image that I am using here. I have re-sized it to 650 pixels. Save that edited image to the images folder that you have created a moment ago. This will be the only image that we will be using for our simple template.

Open your html editor. In Kompzer, go to Format – Page Colors And Background.

Check the radio button – Use Custom Colors. Click on the Background button to bring up the color selector. Type in the hex color code that you are using for your blog’s theme. Click OK. The template page background should now look the same as your blog theme.

Next go to Table- Insert – Table or click on the table icon. In the opened window, clicke “Precisely” Set your tables preferences to Rows – 2, Columns – 1, Width – 650 pixels, Border – 0 Click OK

Right click on the tables that you have just created. Select ‘Table Cell Properties’ . In the opened widow, set Spacing – 0, Padding -5, Table Alignment – Center, Captions – None. Click on the background Color button. Set the color to white.

You should now see two white rows in a single column. Click on the top row. You should see the blinking cursor. Go Insert – Image or click on the image icon. In the opened window, click on the image of the opened folder to locate your header image which you have saved in the folder created during in the second step.

You can type in some alternate text if you want to, but I prefer to choose ‘Don’t Use Alternate Text’ Click OK. You should have something that looks like this.

Believe it or not, your template is now ready for use. The second column will expand accordingly downwards once you start putting in some text. Save your template into the new folder which you have created in the first step with any name you like as a html file. The folder should now contain an image folder and a html file. To see your masterpiece, click on that html file you have just created and the template will open in your default browser. See? Easy peasy to make a simple html template.
