Out of the thousands of blogs created every week, more than half of them gets abandoned after a few weeks or months. Starting a blog is as easy as ABC, but to maintain a blog takes more than the 26 alphabets. The majority of them just simply fell out of love with their blogs. Here are some tips that have kept me going for the past 2 years. Though all my blogs did not hit off in a very big way, I have managed to keep my love for them enough for me not to abandon them.

Comments

Getting comments is the biggest encouragement that one can get to love your blog. However, getting people to comment is never easy, especially when your blog is new and has limited number of readers. (like this blog, for instance). However, I have seen highly rated blogs, some with a Page Rank of 7 and yet their comments are minimal and they have been blogging for more than 3 years. So there must be something else for them to keep their love for their blog.

Write Good Articles

Ya, you will be cursing me for giving you a tip that you have read a thousand times, but what is a good article? My definition of a good article is an article that you can admire by yourself. An article that you can read over and over again and still have the admiration for it and you felt like you have really written a Pulitzer Prize winning article. That is a good article. Even if no one reads it, you can come back and admire it yourself everyday. So what if there are no comments. It’s like you, alone in your room admiring your new haircut. You feel good looking at yourself and you don’t need anyone else to tell you so.

Never Copy and Paste from Others

You won’t feel proud about it if you stole someone else’s article. It might be one hell of an article, but if you keep coming back and seeing that you have used someone else’s ideas, one day you will feel cheated yourself. If you must, do make sure you clarify that that article is from so and so and you are only sharing it with your readers. Never take credit for someone else efforts. One day you will feel so bad that you will eventually close down your blog because you feel lousy having a blog consisting nothing that you wrote yourself.

Start making a little Bit of Money from Your Blog

Another great push that will make you love blogging even more is the realization that you can earn some money from what you love doing. Many die hard bloggers refrain from writing reviews because they feel it will compromise their quality of the blog, but have you stopped to think that it takes the same amount of effort or maybe even more to write a good review? You can actually write such a good review that you can admire it yourself everyday like all those kick ass articles that you have written. The moment your checks arrive or when you see your PayPal account ballooning, you will feel a rush of adrenaline that increases your love for blogging 5 folds.

lastly…

Use A Theme that you Love

Just like your house, your blog theme plays a crucial part in deciding whether you want to come back everyday. Like the house you are staying, do you feel nice and eager to go whenever you visit your own blog? There are thousands of free Wordpress Themes out there. If you can’t afford to pay some Web Designers to do it for you, you can always choose one that suits your taste. Don’t follow the crowd. Follow your heart. It might look ugly to some, but as long as you love it, use it. When you get fed up with it, change it! Don’t be afraid of changing themes. It actually gives you a certain kick and a good sense of accomplishment when you change themes and get to work smoothly.

Lots of probloggers advises against changing themes too often, but what do they know? They are already so successful that they don’t need all these small perks to keep them going. They have tens of thousands in readership. They have hundreds of comments for their every post. They make thousands every month. Of course they can tell you to stop changing themes every so often, but we are different. We need these little somethings to keep that love going.
