How to replace your Wordpress theme.

Take a short break from Learning SEO and turn to teaching a little instead. This is for a blog friend of mine who have just purchased his own Domain and is in the blur as to how he can replace the default Kubrick theme with a nicer one with 3 columns. I was suppose to email him this tutorial, but thought more beneficial if I posted it here. Who knows there may be others who are also having some problem changing their themes.

Presuming that you have downloaded the theme you like and extracted it to your desktop.

Download Filezilla.

First and foremost, you will have to download the very reliable and easy to use FTP client FileZilla. Then head over to this Wordpress tutorial on how to use and set up this FTP client so that you can easily upload your files. If every thing goes smoothly you should see something like this when you log in to your cPanel.

(Click for bigger image)

Double Click on the “WWW” folder. When the folder opens, double click on
“wp-content”

Double Click “Themes” to open the folder.

Look at your left screen, Open the Desktop folder (1) by double clicking over it, look for the theme folder which you have unzipped and extracted just now, below. Right Click on that Folder and click “Upload”

filezilla5.jpg

Wait until all files are fully Uploaded. You will see the words “upload successful” on the top frame. Double click on the Theme folder that you have just uploaded to open it.(on the right panel) Look for these few files. header php, index php, page php, sidebar php, (or any other sidebars if it is a 3 column theme), single php and if you want to change colors for the theme choose style css as well. Ctrl click to select all these files, then right click over it to open the options window. Click “File Attributes” to open this window.

Check all the boxes as shown or else you won’t be able to edit these files when you want to insert Adsense or whatever. You are done with the Uploading and can exit from FileZilla now. Go to your Wordpress Dashboard - Presentation. Look for the theme that you have just uploaded and activate it. Enjoy your new theme.

Ket,

I don’t think there is anything else you could other than getting in touch with your host to reset your Cpanel login username and password.

that’s the info you need for Filezilla to access your data on your server.
