Is paying for Reviews worth it?

by Costa on July 16, 2007

Paying for a review to increase traffic for blogs has become a fad after the emergence of ReviewMe and various other review selling sites. It caught on after popular and influential bloggers bragged about successes that blogs have enjoyed after being reviewed by them. It was even made more convincing after the blogger that bought that review reported that their traffic increased significantly for few days after being reviewed, reason being the review is still visible on the front page.

Can the increased blog traffic be sustained

A blog with a loyal following of about 20,000 readers per day will, in my rough estimate, send about 20 percent of his readers over to the blog that he has reviewed. That makes the figure to about 4 thousand extra hits, more or less, going to the blog that has bought the review and if that figure can be sustained for 4 days, it means a total of 8 thousand new readers to his blog.

After the 4th. day, or maybe earlier, the figure will almost drop back to almost normal. How many of the new visitors that he can lure to subscribe or bookmark him to come back for more depends totally on the blog itself. If it is a fantastic blog with fantastic contents not available anywhere else, the blog will enjoy his fruits of labor for years to come. If it is a blog that looks and feel as though you have read a thousand times, then I don’t think it will attract any one new. Then I think it is a waste of money

Getting Dugg, StumbledUpon or Bookmarked

Like buying reviews, getting your blogs Dugg or StumbledUpon will also bring a avalanche of visitors to your blogs for a day or two. I have one article dugg here and the results are impressive. It was because of this impression that I decided to pay to be stumbled, and I must say i wasn’t too happy with the money spent. Though it brought me about a thousand new visitors, I think I got none of them impressed enough to come back for more. The only fun thing is I still get a few hits for the posts that have been stumbled, but those are curious hits from curious people.

So at the end of the day, it all boils down to the often repeated advise. Contents. That does not mean just filling up your blogs, as many have misunderstood. Contents means unique contents that cannot be found anywhere else in the Blogosphere. If you think you have that and no one has realized it, by all means spent all you can to publicise it to the world. For a blog like this, I don’t think I need to spend any money buying reviews. How many of you have read post in the same vein as this? If this is your first time here, would you ever think of coming back? I hope so, but I guess not.
