Problogger is having a poll asking his readers on how many unique visitors they get daily. There were 52 comments when I left with readers reporting their uniques there rather than taking part in the poll itself. Most I would say were reporting realistic figures. Some reported above average and there were some who reported very high numbers.
Like a curious cat, I visited the blogs who had higher uniques that the average, hoping to find out what made them click and maybe try to implement their blogging ways here. Going downwards in the comments from Darren Rowse’s post I dropped by those who reported more than 1000 uniques his daily, which to me, is a better than average figure.
Shanker Ganesh - reported 1000 uniques regularly though his About Page said the blog gets about 18 to 20,000 pageviews a month.
Tech Digest- A blog that Andy Merret writes for receives 20,000 uniques per day.
Geeks are sexy - Usually gets 6 to 9000 unique visitors per day.
Theappleofmyi - I believe reads as “the apple of my eye” got 2500.
How to Geek - Garners 17,000 daily. This blog has nearly 24,000 subscribers!
Mid-energy.net- Usually gets around 1000 per day.
devil may cry- Has another blog, Fable which receives 1 to 2,500 uniques daily.
Tech Buzz - 8000 uniques according to Google Analytics.
Fatgadget - A 4 month old blog that receives 2,500 to 3,000 unique visitors daily.
Geekzone - 20,000 daily with a record one day high of 125,000 uniques in a day.
That was all I could gather from Problogger’s post. I don’t know if the numbers has been pumped up as I never went and do any research so I presume all reported figures are true. This gives me an evil idea. If I were to put in a comment and said this post gets more than 20,000 unique visitors daily, do you think those who reads Darren Rowse post will clamour here to have a peek at such a successful blog?
I got less than 10 unique visits per month. Sad.

I am sure a lot out there is claiming false information like 10k unique or earning usd10k a month, but unless you could live up with the truth in a short term, your lie will soon be exposed.
A sudden expose that you have high visitor will actually make others wonders and may pay a visit to your blog to learn more. But if you don’t have good post, they will not stay long
so again, it’s the content that counts ultimately i guess

Okay.. 18k pageviews is also an enviable figure by my standards.
yes you might get some people visit your blog, but bloggers are very quick in getting to know your traffic by your readership, ALEXA, and PR. SO if somebody tries to fool it will drive them away in less than 30 seconds. SO dont try to pump

you might get a few curiosity clickers if you said you had a lot of visitors - but it could harm your reputation when people arrive here and find that it’s not the case by checking out Alexa ranking, comment levels etc.
My experience with comments on my blog is that those who get the highest click throughs on their comments are those who say something wise and helpful - people generally want to read more of their advice when they do this.

Too many bloggers are pumping up claims with money earned, uniques, etc. You just can’t believe everything they say. Usually it shows up when you analyse their stats and take into account the kind of stuff they write and who are making comments and so on. You can arrive at a fairly good conclusion where they are coming from.
Perhaps, that’s the whole idea to lure bloggers especially those still wet behind the ears. Most times it works as attested by some of these blogs. One of the basic human instincts is to “look up to winners.”
True, I have seen many reporting unrealistic figures. Sometimes I just get lost not knowing whether to believe or not. maybe it’s because there are not many people who would go digging for proof that they are pumping up the figures, like me. hehehe..I would rather spend my time doing other things.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend pumping up blog figures, as the only thing it will do it do is damage your brand / reputation / blog etc.
Dont forget it is not just bloggers and web users who read blogs, but advertisers do as well.
And whatever information you put online will remain there for a long time.

The daily uniques were once about 14000, but then I screwed my robots.txt to stop Googlebot from accessing my site. All my pages from Google’s index were dropped. Sending my traffic to under 1000. Now, it’s 8500 per day, hopefully, it will be restored to it’s original number.
I certainly agree that pumping up figures could damage your reputation as a blogger, but sadly many bloggers do that.
You can try checking out Alexa Rank. It may not be accurate, but gives you a rough estimate of the traffic.
