K9 Theme For WordPress 2.5

Derived from the hugely popular K2 theme, this theme that I am trying out now is titled K9 Theme by Safirul Alredha of Zeo. It is a really simple theme without any frills and fireworks. The selling point of this theme is the clean and very uncluttered layout as compared to the previous magazine style theme that I had up for two weeks. Since I have, but given up all ambitions of selling Ad space or making money from this blog, at least in the foreseeable future, I think this K9 theme will serve my purpose.

This theme can also be considered a beginner’s theme as it is really quite simple to use and personalize. There is a Custom Image Option for the easy changing of the header’s font size and colors. Those who prefer to use their own image like what I’m doing now, can simply upload the image and this theme will do the rest.

It looks like the theme has only one sidebar, but there are actually 2, both which are widgetized. One is on the right and the other one is at the footer.

The comments section comes gravatar ready but since I like to use threaded comments, I replaced the comments php to make use of Brian’s Threaded Comment plugin. I feel every designer should incorporate threaded comments into their theme designs. It makes replying to comments a lot more fun and discussions can actually be more lively. Of course for those who just want to use it out of the box, the original comments section is already quite cool.

Other than that, this K9 theme also comes with the 2 functions that I love to have the most in all the themes I use. The image align function and the edit post function are built in so it saved me some time to have to insert the codes myself. It is another feature that I hope all designers would include in their themes.

The rest of the theme are pretty standard and should not pose any problem to any users. For simple SEO purposes, just upload the Related Post plugin and the theme is basically ready to roll, but then there are tons of plugins you can use to enhance this theme but remember the K9 WordPress Theme is only compatible for WordPress 2.5+ so make sure the plugins are also compatible.

It’s basic enough to easily cause content clutter. For example, your right sidebar is already looking very busy.

Probably what can be done about this is widen the gap between the content and the sidebar. :)

Yea, I think so too. Probably due to the Tags widget. I have too many tags. maybe I’ll move that down to the footer.
