Meta Blogging

I did not really understood the real meaning of niche blogging then. I thought niche blogging was just simply blogging about a particular topic. I thought as long as it is not a personal blog ranting about the meals I ate or the girls I met, then I am niche blogging. So I started Blog Gigs, thinking, right I am into niche blogging. I am going to blog about nothing but blogging. I will be able to attract all the readers that are interested to hear about blogging and when they all do come, I am going to make much money by selling many ads. That makes it a great niche doesn’t it? Wrong! I made yet another big blunder.

First of all, there are already millions of other meta blogs, which left me trailing behind so far away that I will never see the light of the day. Secondly, as compared to the million of others, my knowledge of the word blogging is so limited that I can’t offer anything ground breaking to stand out of the crowd, and thirdly, something I just learned, even Adsense don’t do well in blogs like this and it might actually harm our overall earnings.

Frankly, if we join the blogosphere now, there isn’t many hot topics that we can blog about anymore. It’s either about gadgets, technology, celebrities, food, making money and of course blogging. These topics are so crowded that it is almost impossible to make an impact unless we are very lucky or very knowledgeable enough to manipulate every means.

Many gurus will make it simple for you. They will tell you, hey, it’s easy. Pick a topic that you are passionate about and start blogging away. How hard can that be. They will tell you that as long as you love that topic, you will succeed. They will tell you just keep blogging and let traffic take care if itself. They even tell you to blog for yourself and not for an audience. Yea. Tell that crap to my gout infected knees.

  1. Unless you’re trying to get rich off your blog, I say don’t worry about it. You can always start another that focuses on another topic.

The key is to enjoy what you’re doing. If you aren’t, then you need to stop and concentrate on something else.

LOL. Tell you the truth. I enjoy pouring out my blogging frustrations here. I think many people will relate to this frustrations. :-)

  3. litford says:

people want to know what WE think as bloggers, and not just repeat something someone else says.

That lies one of the intrinsic values of blogging, not how much money it makes.

  4. Wayne Liew says:

Not just on the topics you mentioned about, even niches such as weight loss, back pain and basically everything you see listed on the front page of Ezinearticles is becoming saturated. Thinking that we need to do to blurt out something that seems creative for others is indeed harder.

  5. litford, I agree with your first sentence completely but disagree a bit with the second.
While the intrinsic value is nice, monetary value is the reason many are looking to get involved. Lack of financial success is probably the reason so many quite. Let’s face it, If you made $20k+ a month with a blog, it’s a lot easier to motivate yourself to post regularly.
