Peopleofwalmart.com is a blogger’s wildest dream come true. How many times have you wished that your blog will be discovered and mention by sites like Huffington Post, Fox News and Times. That’s what happened to this small site started by 3 friends inspired after a visit to Walmart. In a matter of weeks, peopelofwalmart.com became viral and at this time of writing, the site is still down with an traffic overload. For those who are still dreaming to be a famous blogger, there is hope yet. LOL
Since I haven’t seen the site, I have no comments but from news gathered by the many sites that have written about it, it is just a fun site that can be started by any one. Can be described as a photoblog where pictures of unknowing shoppers are posted with funny captions poking at the said shopper. Kind of risky if you ask me. Never know when anyone will take offence and sue the guys responsible. Anyway, this is not another review of the blog so I reserve any further opinions.
The thing is with success stories like this, many will start to think who needs Google. Do something unique and or outrageous and you are on Flight 99 to fame and fortune. In reality, that’s wishful thinking. There must be millions of others doing what these guys did but lady luck just refuse to smile at them. It’s like striking the Jackpot with odds of millions to one.
Blogging gurus have always advocated that you post unique and high quality contents in order to achieve your ambitions of being a successful blogger. You do as told, spending hours researching a topic before writing it with in-depth details. You do that once a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, but you don’t see fame forthcoming. You ask the guru why is it so. The guru will tell you, “Give yourself some time, your day will come.” Before long, you are one burned-out blogger with a blog filled with hundreds of high quality articles, read by no-one but yourself.
People who believed in this theory have to be hard core, true blue bloggers whose opinion on blogging is “a blog must bring value to it’s readers” whether it is their opinion on matters or dispersing their knowledge. They blog with no ulterior motives other than wanting their readers to love them and what they have written. They feel offended with affiliate links and banners.
To be honest, I respect these kind bloggers. At least they are honest about their blogging. There are many who “pretends” to be bloggers, trying to convince people of their sincerity but in fact leading their readers to hell.
Peopleofwalmart.com’s rise is one special case that cannot be duplicated without a huge dose of luck so it’s best we just remain as awestruck bystanders. It’s okay to heave a big sigh and say wishfully, “How I hoped this happened to me” and leave it at that. I doubt rushing to the nearest supermarket and start snapping pictures of unknowing shoppers will make you another famous blogger.
