Those writing for PeePeePee, (LoL.. we are advised not to use the proper words lest we get chastised for it) today will be D day. RealRank sprang into action and has started to gather information on all those blogs in their database. Many, me included are waiting in anticipation of how our blogs will be ranked as the amount that we make will depend on that in the very near future.

As RealRank’s algorithm is geared towards real traffic rather than the awkward backlinks, hopes are not running too high for many who knows that their blogs don’t get many readers. Coupled with the fact that the RealRank Engines runs at 2am every morning, the time zone factor might be deterring for many blogs.

There is no indication as how the ranks will be calculated, though Ted Murphy in his blog stated that blogs will be ranked from 1 to 9. How many real visitors to make it to rank 1 is not revealed, but it is common sense to note that the more traffic you have the higher you will be ranked. The higher you rank the more your post will be valued.

When creating an opportunity, advertisers are asked to select a rank from 1 through 9. This really equates to a percentage of the marketplace to exclude from an opportunity. If an advertiser chooses a 9, they are effectively excluding 90% of the marketplace and only allowing people in the top 10% of the ranks into the opportunity.

It will be a two way sword. Of course Advertisers will want the best value for their money. If the present system of pricing is intact, where Advertisers name their price but sets their preference to higher ranked blogs, many lower ranked blogs will be sidelined. On the other hand, if they priced it to low, blogs with higher ranks will just ignore that opportunity and go for the higher ones.

Many bloggers are already lamenting that this system will only benefit those with high volumes of traffic, unlike previously where even low traffic blogs can grab high paying opportunities as long as they have a respectable rank. However, I feel Advertisers will see things a little bit differently. They will want to spread out their exposure. For example if their budget is $100, rather than giving the opportunity to 5 blogs with say, 3000 unique visitors paying them $20 each, they would rather spread out the opportunity to 20 blogs with 1000 uniques paying them $5 each. Distributing their opportunity this way, they will be getting 20,000 people looking at the reviews as compared to 15,000. That will be real value for money.

Having said that, there will be also be many Advertisers going for a certain segment of the market and they will be willing to sacrifice and pay more for the relevant and targetted traffic. So whatever it is, boosting your blogs traffic will be of utmost importance if you intend to make more.

Obviously if your rank improves (remember, we calculate it daily), you could find yourself qualifying into opportunities that you previously weren’t eligible for. Similarly, if you find opportunities segmented based on RealRank that you do qualify for, it’s in your interests to take that opportunity rapidly; you may get pipped to the post tomorrow by a more popular site.

This is going to be real interesting to watch. The blogosphere will be dissected into 2 partitions. On the bigger partition, will be blogs depending on Google for their livelihood and their page rank, on the smaller partition will be blogs living on paid reviews. In time we shall see who crosses where. Boy, this is going to be good. Real Good. For those who lost their Page Ranks, getting the Real Rank will let you know where you stand. If your RealRank sucks, then clean up your blog and get your page rank back. If your RealRank rocks, why the hell do you still need PageRank?
