The Genesis Framework from StudioPress went responsive recently with the release of Genesis 1.8. The Genesis Theme can now adapt to different resolutions and screen widths without any distortions or cut off line. To take full advantage this new feature, StudioPress released the Eleven40 Child Theme which is the first responsive child theme that can be viewed perfectly in smartphones and other mobile devices without the aid of a plugin.
Eleven40, the name of the Theme, if you are curious to know why, represents the The 1140 CSS Grid System that the Theme is based on to achieve the responsive design. It was a system developed by Andy Taylor , re-tailored and put to good practice by Brian Gardner to make Genesis a responsive theme. Not coincidentally, Eleven40 is also the Theme that Brian Gardner is using for his own personal blog.

Features Of The Eleven40 Genesis Child Theme
As in all other Genesis Child Themes from StudioPress, the Eleven40 Genesis Child Themes comes with the usual features.
You have a choice of 4 different color schemes to choose from namely, Blue, Green, Orange and Red. Personally my preference will be the orange or the Red color schemes as I felt these 2 colors has better contract with the the others. Of course, like I said many a times, colors are very subjective so it is the user’s choice.

Apart from the 4 combination of colors, you can also choose to display the Theme in 6 different layouts. You can have a single column layout witout any sidebars, or 2 columns with sidebar on the left or the right. Alternatively, you can also have a 3 coumn layout with 2 sidebars on the left or right or have one sidebar on each side.
Again personally, for the Eleven40 Child Theme, my preference is the 3 column layout. This is because the content area of the Eleven40 Child Theme is rather wide and I find that not very suitable for pleasant reading. Having 2 sidebars will reduce the width of the Contents substantially to make reading very much more pleasurable.

Furthermore, looks more organized too.
Of course the most important feature is it is responsive.
How The Eleven40 Genesis Child Themes Looks In Different Screen Widths
The Eleven40 Genesis Child Theme responds to all screen widths and resolutions. The most common screen sizes like 240 x 320 (small phone), 320 x 480 (iPhone), 480 x 640 (small tablet), 768 x 1024 (iPad – Portrait) and 1024 x 768 (iPad – Landscape) will all display the Theme perfectly with no sacrifice to contents. If the screen is too narrow to accommodate contents in the sidebars, it will be dynamically re-located to the bottom of the post.
