Many bloggers professes that number of blog traffics that their blogs got from being stumbled are better than any other resources available. I agree. I had one or my articles in another blog Stumbled today and by mid day, visitors have surpassed the 500 mark. That is a lot of visitors for that blog if counted in terms of average. This blog too has been stumbled many times and from these experience, I came to some conclusions.
Stumbled traffic is just like passing traffic.
If you are driving along the freeway and all of a sudden you hear a loud sound, 10 out of ten times, you will slow down to take a look. So will most others and almost immediately you will see a big crown gathering around, looking on curiously. After satisfying their curiosity, they leave and within hours, they would have forgotten about the incident.
Likewise, if you have an article Stumbled by someone, expect the same scenario. You will get a nice and welcoming surprise to see your Blog Stats shoot up by the hundreds. Like the curious onlookers that has gathered to witness the road mishap, they too will congregate at your blog for the period that your blog is up on the Stumbled List. After checking out what the hoo haa is about they will just leave and by the next hour, they won’t even remember the URL of your blog.
Stumblers are a very fussy bunch.
Visitors who comes a calling after reading a review in StumbleUpon has high expectations from the blog that has been stumbledupon. Some can be very unforgiving and give you a second review that can be very negative. I remember quite sometime ago, I had one article stumbled upon and a few visitors doesn’t like the Kontera Ads and Adsense Ads that I was using back then. They actually gave me another stumble review that this blogs sucks and is only out to make money.
Traffic coming from Ping services are better than those from StumbleUpon.
No doubt, you won’t get as much traffic from pings to all those pinging portals, but the readers who visits from these are much better if compared to the hundreds that you get from StumbleUpon. These readers are often repeat visitors and if you ping your post often enough they will normally check on you again if they see your pings. If you give them reasonably good articles, they might just subscribe to your feeds or put your blog in their blogrolls. I have a feeling that most subscribers to this blog were earned that way.
Should You Encourage People to Stumble You?
Of course! Else you will not see what you see at the bottom of each of my post. I practically beg them to stumble or subscribe to this blog. Those who were Stumbled here may not come ever again on their own, but hey, if one of my post gets Stumbled everyday, I would not mind the passing traffic one little bit. Who knows, maybe 3 out of the hundreds will find this blog appealing to them and subscribe.

I still have no idea how it works.
But then if you have enough stumbleupon articles, then it could mean sustained hike in readership stats lor.. Though they may not be the same bunch of readers, right?
