The Brain Is Like A Body Of Running Water

Water, when it is is flowing freely, like a stream, remains clean and fresh. As it flows, the water has the ability to absorb oxygen thereby giving the water the ability to support various lifeforms which in turn nourishes the quality of the water even further. The longer the stream flows, the bigger and stronger it becomes, eventually turning itself into a enormous river, cutting through mountains, even dividing nations. Such is the power of a body of running water that started off as a trickle. The only obstacle that could stunt it’s growth is when this body of running water runs into a big vast pool, stopping it’s flow, reducing it’s might into a giant wasteland, breeding infectious mosquitoes.

Likewise, our brains suffers the same fate once we stop it from flowing and absorbing new knowledge. It will grow foul and run contrary with the age old saying of the wise sage who told the generations after him that “the older we get, the wiser we become” If we stop our brain from learning new things, instead of the wise old man that we are suppose to grow into, we will simply become foolish old fools.

I do not consider myself old, but having survived for more than half a century on planet Earth as a homosapien, I don’t exactly think I am young either, however, I have never stopped my brain from learning new things lest it turns stagnant and turn into a the big wasteland. I have a secret formula for this behavior. It is called humbleness and the humble pie is my primary diet.

To remain humble, I have to keep reminding myself that I do not know everything in spite of my long existence. So at this ripe age, I am learning to build a successful blog and doing business online with the added advantage that I am not shy to ask for advises from tech savvy people half my age. Along the way, I picked a lot of brains and with the little wisdom accumulated throughout these years I am able to decipher which are good and feasible and differentiate them from those that are not. In most cases, I was able to adapt what I have learned to suit and make it work under the circumstances that I live in.

We know it, but unconsciously we don’t feel it. When we boot up our computer, fire up the browser’s search engine looking for information, we get the misconceived feeling that the information is coming from the idiot box in front of us Never once did we let our brains wonder away that the piece of information that we are reading might be coming from some Nobel Prize winner half way across the globe. That is what advancement of technology does to humankind. It just made the world a real small place. It has shrunk the world to the size of your 15″ laptop and now you have the world in front of you. Are you willing to join me in my daily meal of the delicious humble pie? Are you willing to learn from new things? Or would you rather be like the body of running water that has turned stagnant.
