Darren’s third tip in his series of 31 days to Building a better Blog,
Search For and Join Forums on your Blogs Topic.
This is one tip that I actually tried out and failed miserably and the fault lies within me or at least I think it was me. When I started, I did looked for some forums where I could hopefully make some new friends. However, I discovered that most forums are monopolised by a regular group who has their own conversations going and for me to butt in seems kind of rude. Furthermore, I have no general idea about what they are talking about.
Like a polite stranger in a party where some friends had brought me and left me alone, I introduced myself, my blog and a little bit or other whatnot. Everyone said hello politely and carried on with what they were talking about before I butted in. Like the stranger in the party where no one knows me, I eventually left and went home alone. I am no party animal.
I joined other Forums and even started a few threads. Again nobody noticed and the thread received no response whatsoever. Being the sceptical blogger that I am, I gave up. Maybe I did not approach this in the right way. Darren’s tip has given me a new insight on the proper approach. Maybe one of these days, I might go Forum hunting again. So to supplement Darren’s tip, I would like to add mine,
Join Forums Where You already Have Friends for a Start.
Just like going to a Party full of strangers, going to a party where you have a few friends present does makes a big difference. At least you won’t be totally ignored in the first few conversation. With friends around to make introductions, strangers tend to give a little bit of face to your friends and will include you in whatever they are discussing about. Once you get to know more people, it will be easier to put Darren’s tip to practise.
Once the forum with you in it gets going, it can be very additive. Just like Internet Chat, we can get hooked, wondering what are the response you will be getting once you post something new and once you get hooked, do you think you will be still thinking so much about your blog that has no comments whatsoever?

Hahaha, this is one tip I will pass. I run my own forum but I am a strict administrator. Lagi ada, saya selalu pigi cari gaduh sama itu kwaipohs di tiga P sebab mereka pandang rendah orang negara kita. Lagi pigi buka satu blog dan tembak orang kita. Baru semalam saya kacau tahi sana. Lu senang pigi baca lah. I fren only the males, less problems.
I agree with you completely about feeling left out. That is why I dun want to join in. I will still read the forums, but dun comment.
The Logbook is making it hard though. My blardy face kept appearing on those ‘who visited’ thing on the side bar.
You change template again!
I never had this problem myself, contribute and be friendly , that’s how all the others got there too…
