The Year In Closing

2007 December 24

As I pack in for the year, I asked myself what have I achieved in terms where blogging is concerned. It is a mixed feeling.

When I started there was no inclination whatsoever that I will be making money or ever want to make money from blogging. I started out of curiosity since there was so much hype about the word blogging and how popular can a person get through his blog. Of course I dabbled in a little bit of Adsense, made about 50 cents a day and thought, what the hell, blogging doesn’t pay, and left it at that, blogging blissfully for the couple of hundred visitors that I was getting.

It was only at the later part of last year when the writing of reviews took a boom that I really saw a golden opportunity to make some fast and easy money and like many of us withing my blogging circle, we went on a review writing rampage with the eventual consequences that I don’t need to mention anymore.

One fortunate thing was I had the foresight to keep this blog kind of “clean” so this blog wasn’t hit, but occasionally if a good paying review comes along, I do accept, hoping the Mighty One will be merciful.

Throughout this few months spent on this blog, I had written some articles that pleased some people and I had also written some that pissed people off. For those who liked the articles, I am gratified, but to those who found some of the articles stupid and senseless, I can only say sorry, as sometimes I do write nonsense. Somethings that doesn’t work for me, don’t necessary means it won’t work for others. So I have made a small promise to myself to try not to write these kind of stuffs anymore. I mean, the stuffs that doesn’t work for me.

I discovered some great blogs this year that made me realized that blogging can be lucrative if we play our cards right. One was Internet Marketing By Courtney and the other recent discovery was Blogger Unleashed by Vic. Between these two, I have learned more than all the blogging guru’s blogs that I read, combined.

Each time I read some blogging tips like how to garner traffic or how to monetize my blog, I will be spoon fed by some tips that I have read a thousand times before but when I tried them out, it just doesn’t seem to work. Finally I stopped reading those blogs because I felt they are not telling me everything. They have something up their sleeves and they are not revealing the methods they used behind the scenes to chalk up those impressive figures.

It was only after catching up with Court and Vic’s blog that I finally understood what went on behind our backs and how they were able to achieve what they have achieved. I was also made to realize that a blog like Blog Gigs, that blogs about blogging, will never make money because of the intense competition out there. Both of them were generous enough to reveal the secrets that all other top bloggers have kept to themselves, feeding me and all their readers with tips that are all theory. On the premise of that realization, and on a large part due to Vic’s advise, I started 2 new projects, which hopefully will work out.

So it has been an eye opening year end for me. I have learned the real truth which I hope I can apply and really make some serious money come next year. To all those who has subscribed to Blog Gigs, those who prefers to see this blog “physically” everyday, and to those who drops in unexpectedly, I take this opportunity to say a big thank you and hope I can manage to keep all of you by this blog’s side for the year to come.

HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I owe you an apology for picking on your post. I do sincerely apologize if it hurt your feelings.

It was just that it seemed so negative and so down on blogging that I wanted to let people know they can make money blogging and some of the things you said don’t work, do work for some people.

It’s rough giving advice to people and you do have to rely on your own experiences. I think your experiences and mine were different is all.

I do run more than 50 blogs, most of them are for large companies. That does not mean I know everything there is to know about blogging.

But if you ever need any help based on my own experience I would be glad to help. Maybe you will teach me some things as well.

So I hope you accept my apology and have a merry christmas and happy new year. And a profitable new year as well.

I think you should not stop writing negative posts as you defined above. I personally feel that there are too many “feel good” posts out there which sounds scammy. Giving the truth does appeal to many a blogger. It is up to them to face the truth on how difficult it is to blog to succeed. One can blog just for the fun of it and it can be pretty simple but if one has certain goals to achieve (be it money, traffic, fame bla bla bla), it is not as easy as it sounds. Millions are trying to do it but only a small fraction succeed. You write well and your honest and no-nonsense approach in giving advice attracts me. I find that sets you apart from other bloggers (you are very much like Lilian).

So, I would be a disappointed reader if you do not throw in a couple of negative posts once a while ;)

And now that you are reading Courtney’s and Vic’s blogs, do you still read mine? Oh wait a minute! You said you ditch other gurus. I am not a guru. So that means you still read, eh? LOL! :D

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year pal!
