In real life, it is not easy to be a trendsetter and get worldwide recognition of the trend that you are setting. You can be a trendsetter in school if you start something crazy like dying your hair with multiple colors. You can be a trendsetter in work if your colleagues fancies the silly ties you wear and takes after you, but if you are to be a trendsetter for something the the whole world is going to follow, you will have to be a world celebrity like Madonna or Micheal Jackson.
Now that is the real world. In the virtual world, where everything is possible, you can be a trendsetter even if you are an unknown or even not known at all.
Three days ago, I have not even heard of the name Ryan Stewart. Today he is the latest darling of the Blogosphere. With one stroke of ingenuity, Ryan has become the talk of the sphere for his speculation of John Chow’s prime blog estate and in the event, became a trendsetter for future blog estate speculators, which I have a feeling will start to take root starting today. Coupled with the fact that he was able to buy and sell that piece of blog estate within 2 days and making himself a tidy profit will set other ambitious blog vultures go a hunting for prime blog spaces and offering the blog owners irresistable offers, hoping to make a killing.
In the not too distant future, if your blog is reasonably popular, you will have blog estate agents knocking on your inbox, offering to buy your ad-space. There will be sites akin to real estate agencies, offering bloggers to buy their prime ad spaces. Unlike what is available now where bloggers gets to sell their spaces for a small monthly fee, this new trend will see the emergence of speculators who will buy your prime piece of Ad Space, with an optional time frame, and within that time frame, gets someone to buy it from them for a profit. If they make the sale, they make a profit, and if they don’t, they will get publicity to their sites, just like what Ryan did.
What Ryan pulled of is going to be the talk of the sphere for a long time to come. When the day comes that blog estate speculation becomes part and parcel of blogging, he will be known as the pioneer of this industry. What he did will now propel eleven21.com into the rank of blogging elites and being the capitalist that he is, he knows how to capitalise on the advantage that he had gained from this foray. In his latest entry he ended his post with these words,
Stay tuned. I plan on using this one, single, bold move to pay for my entire medical school education – to the tune of about $80,000.
For those who visited his blog due to this recent event, don’t you think he got them enticed enough to go back for more with that statement? He got me. Ryan, you are a true capitalist!

Thanks so much for such kind words. I’ve gotta tell you, it feels good to be the “darling of the internet.”
I look forward to the march to $80k.
