There are thousands of Blog gurus around. Everyone who has been blogging for a couple of months and have read tips from gurus before them will turn into another guru wannabe. That’s the reason why you can read a thousand blog gurus and you will still find the same tips. They all come from the same source and no one knows who was the first guy who published these tips that has been repeated by thousands of others, each making it as if it was their own “discovery”.
Two years ago, I wrote about some outdated blogging tips that does not work anymore. I correct myself here today. I should not have said they were outdated, misunderstood would be a better word, like the guy that I was 2 years ago. All that have been said, I am still doing it, but for a different reason. Let’s re-hash a little about those common tips that you will read when you are in your quest to better improve your blog’s traffic.
I said submitting your blogs to blog directories is outdated. Well, it is not and is still in voque. In fact, I still do it, but these days, I do it for a different reason. Most new bloggers will think that by submitting your blog to many directories, they will get many traffic. It is a most naive thought. People almost never scout for information in blog directories. They do it with Search Engines. The only reason I submit blogs to blog directories these days is because they provide me with a backlink, which will in turn help my blog get indexed. This in turn will make the blog rank better at the Search Result page, which in turn will bring me the traffic. It tales 3 turns before you see some actual benefit of your submission to blog directories.
I said, Ping Your Blogs To Hundreds OF Ping Site is outdated. No surprise, each time I update my blog here, it get’s pinged automatically to the lists of ping portals I have listed in my Admin panel. Again, I am doing it for another reason. This pings will rustle my blog a little bit so that the sharp ears of those crawl spiders will hear and hopefully drop in quickly to see what I have been up to. If the rustle is strong enough, whatever I posted will appear in the Search results within a few minutes.
I said, Submitting Articles is outdated. What do you know. I am still submitting articles once a while these days. Before, the thought was, submitting articles to article directories may get people to come to my blog once they see my author bio. No one told me it was because of that precious backlink that they have included in their article that they are spending time writing articles for those directories. Submitting articles are purely for backlinks, not traffic. How stupid of me!
Another thing I said was Joining A Forum is outdated. Well, it is not, so I found out, but it is not so much as to make friends or to interact with others so that they will come and read your blogs. It It is more for the link back to my blog in the signature I use for that Forum.
Then Making Comments In Blogs. Of course it still holds that if you comment in a hundred blogs each day, you might get 50 bloggers reciprocating in courtesy and it is still a good way to socialize around. However, the norm these days, is many commentators are getting sneaky. Instead of commenting with their real names they use their keywords instead and given the slightest chance, they will include a link within their comments.
Do you guys see the trend here? These days, for those in the know, it’s all about backlinks. New bloggers who are still innocent and untainted will still believe by following those tips, they will get traffic directly and quickly for their efforts. Fortunately, it will not be efforts wasted. If they have done all the above, they would have unknowingly build up many backlinks for themselves. Those backlinks might never be clicked at all by anyone, but in the long run, it does makes a difference in their blog’s Search Engine Rankings.

I think that article marketing for links will be devalued in future revisions of Google’s algorithm. The current situation rewards extensive linkfarms of spun articles.
It’s already de-valued. All links from article directories or whatever directories carries very little weight but it adds up. A link is still a link, no matter what.
As far as I have read, we also have to be careful about the “bad neighborhood sites”. We don’t wanna end up exchanging links with such site right?
That’s right Mitco.
Great
