Unleash Your Links
I have an argument to make and I might sound stupid in the process of making this argument, but I am going to make it anyway. If anyone thinks what I am going to write is stupid, please be my guest and call me stupid. I will not mind.
I do not pride myself to be an expert in SEO and I certainly have no intimate knowledge of how Google’s algorithm works. I might have a better idea after Amit Singhal, a Google Fellow in charge of the ranking team at Google, has completed and I have thoroughly digested, his series on Introduction to Google Ranking, which he started recently. In the meantime, I will base my argument on the little that I know.
From what I have learned, Google ranks us by how other blogs sees us. If lots of other blogs thinks we are good, and this goodness is exhibited in their blogs by way of linkbacks to our blogs so that their readers can also enjoy this goodness, then, Google will recognize that endorsement and we will be in their good books. I hope I got it right so far.
If I am right, then all new and struggling blogs are in real deep shit given the present scenario where most authoritive bloggers have stopped linking to newer blogs in the normal way that Google will see the link, but in a way that is hidden away from Google’s spiders. Not only will new blogs and those struggling to get that all important endorsement from Google be suffering, Google themselves will be hard pressed to find new blogs to endorse.
I am always of the opinion that if we have done no wrong, we don’t have to worry about the law. Justice will prevail. The punishment meted by Google sometime ago was to punish those who are screwing up Googles Search Results. However, it went a little bit overboard and many innocent victims became the unintended casualty of war. Even though there were hues and cries of injustice, and many did get the eventual justice they deserved from Googles, the damage has been done and the scar has yet to fully heal to this day.
Due to this painful experience, most, if not all bloggers decided on stern action to safeguard their interest and their livelihood. All link juice stopped dripping from their blogs for fear of being seen by Google as one who sells juices, and by god, Google hates juice sellers. What they passed around now are as dry as a piece of potato chip. It provides some nourishment, but that’s as far as it goes.
Back to my argument, since newer blogs won’t be getting any juices from good authority blogs that Google visits frequently , how on earth is Google going to know the existence of millions of good blogs that emerges daily? They certainly cannot depend on links picked up from social submissions, article submissions or directory submissions alone can they? Spammers submits to those too. The best and most trustworthy source still lies with a good authority blog. Sadly, as it is, most of them has stopped showing these links to Google. But then, as Mr. Singhal said in his first article,
The most common question I get asked about Google’s ranking is “how do you do it?” Of course, there is a lot that goes into building a state-of-the-art ranking system like ours.
Since it is such an advanced state-of-the-art system, I feel re-assured that they will be able to differenciate a friendly link from a paid one. I have links with juices in many of my post here pointing my readers to many useful articles and many useful downloads, so far I haven’t being penalised in any what way so I guess I will continue passing juices to whom I deem fit and I am not the only one.
Grizzly who has a blog teaching how to Make Money For Beginners and another new one in Wordpress on Making Money Online is of the same opinion that we should not worry too much of we did things accordingly with a clear conscience. As long as we don’t manipulate Google’s state-of-the-art ranking system, we do not have to fear about being locked down by Google’s laser beams.
In view of this, Grizz has started a very noble project to help out aspiring bloggers get that all important endorsement. I hope to play a small part with this blog of mine. When Grizz finalizes his list, I will be subscribing to each and everyone in it, so I can keep tab. Every time anyone from the list publishes something useful, I will be linking to that post. Though they won’t be getting a lot of physical hits, as my own readership level is pitiful, they will at least gain a PR3 link back which I think will help a little. Then of course it is my hope that when I publish something interesting, I too get some recognition and links.
In ending this post, I would like to quote what Grizz said in his Word of Clarification about his project.
I am not trying to manipulate G - I am trying to get everyone to take advantage of things they already do but get them to do it right or should I say effectively. Quality posts and links are fine with G - just get in the habit of reciprocating and use proper keywords!!
