Use a Good and Search Friendly Blog Title

by Costa on April 15, 2007

Just before I started this blog and got myself real interested in all those SEO ideas, I read that we should have a good keyword or a phrase as our blogs title or at least as our title tag, so that when people search for those words, our blog will be among the top of the search hits.

A good keyword or text is not what we feel is good. We might want something real fancy or easy to remember when we pick those words. This, according to experts is a big mistake. We should put ourselves into the shoes of the people doing their search. What are the words that they would use when they want something. For example, if you have a blog that deals with Asian food, what are the words that people will type in if they are searching for such food? Delicious Asian Food? Good Asian Food? Asian Food Recipes? Those are the words I would use. The 2 words that is most commonly is is Asian Food.

You might not be able to buy a domain containing these words as good domain names are quickly snapped up. The next best thing and which I feel is much more effective is to title your blog with these words. When people wants to link blogs, the most widely words are almost always the title of your blog. So if your blog is titled Best Asian Food, people will most probably use these words to link you.

In my free links giveaway campaign I specifically requested that those who wants to thank me for the links use the words “Free Links” instead of “Ah Pek”, but either they don’t understand my motive or whatever, nobody followed instructions except Lilian. So when Daryl started his Malaysian List campaign I saw a good opportunity to put my experiment to test by using the words, “Free links Giveaway” as the anchor text rather than using Ah Pek that everyone knows me to be. The MY List campaign has really been gathering steam, and to date has I think more than 70 blogs in the list, meaning I have at least 70 links pointing to AhPek.com using the words, “Free Links Giveaway”. I typed in the words “Free Links Giveaway” in Googles Search this morning and this is what I saw. AhPek.com is on the top two spots of the 3,640,000 hits for that search phrase.
