We Are Just Casual Bloggers

2008 February 11

We might appear very serious about blogging when we write our post. We might lament day in day out about our pitiful traffic, we go complaining about the lack of earnings. We act as if we depend on our blogs for our very survival and we know we are creating a blardy big bluff.  The funny thing is everyone plays their part in the bluff, fueling the air with a state of irony, like as though everyone is depending on their blogs to bring food on the table.

Let me call the bluff. We are not dependant on our blogs for our living needs. Not me anyway. Lots of them do, but not me. I only want to make some extra so I can retire easier and not depend on handouts from my children. To make blogging a full time job is not in my life’s itinerary yet, though I complain daily that I am doing terribly with this zero income blog.

Maybe that’s the way bloggers are. We have a secret passion to see our blogs take off in a big way, but since it is not our livelihood yet, we don’t commit a hundred and one percent to it. We take our blogs seriously but yet we are just blogging casually. We act as if we are starving because of our miserable blog, but we are still doing okay with our nine to five.

One day we will realize that to make a living out of our blogs is not as simple as what we have read all this while. Full time bloggers maintains a pool of blogs that sometimes runs into hundreds in order for them to make a decent living. We might read a certain John making more than 30k per month with just one blog and we ask if that is ever possible, but I think I have been inside the Net long enough to take everything with a grain of salt. I have never read of any other pros, reporting that kind of figures for a single blog and many of them have far more readers and subscribers.

So since we are just casual bloggers should we, or rather should I, be ever complaining that my blog is faring badly? No, I guess not and I think those who are in the same boat as me should not either.

Be it casual or serious, if you want it then you need to wish, aim and grab hold of it. Dreamers who never aim to materialize the dream end up continuing to dream. :)
