After blogging for few months and after searching high and low for tips on increasing your blog traffic, you don’t actually have to search anymore. You should have realized by now that there is no secret formula or unrevealed truths. The only ways you can see improvements is like what all gurus have said. Write good contents, submit to social sites or buy your traffic outright.
It is because of all those advises that you have read that we simply lose direction as to where we shall start our campaigns on traffic building. Should we take the “free” course, or should we take the “paid” course?
Lots of bloggers rushes in blindly after reading that it is easy to get traffic by buying them, through Adwords, or start an Ad Campaign with Facebook or StumbleUpon. Yes, of course they will get the traffic, however are these worthy ones? Did the visitor who came to your site after you paid 5 cents for him to come, benefit you?
We have to understand the kind of traffic our blog needs. A blog like this, needs loyal readers who comes because they like what I write. A blog which does Internet marketing, will need traffic from those who are looking for information or stuffs to buy. They don’t necessary need to be loyal or become loyal for the world out there is their customer base. As long as they are selling something that people needs, they will be getting their daily dose of different visitors. That’s the whole reason why they cannot do without Google.
Suffice to say, getting and converting a visitor into a lead is not an easy task, but getting a visitor and converting them into a sale is a wee bit easier though equally tough. For one thing, a visitor that comes via an advertisement that you have placed or from a search hit that Google has picked up, offering something that they were looking for, has more or less made up his mind to buy something. When they turn up in your blog, they will start clicking on your ads, looking for what they need, and these clicks more or less covers their cost of coming to your blog even if they ends up buying nothing. If they do, then you will be making many times over what you paid them for coming.
However, for a blog like this one, that does not serve any PPC Ads, paying for traffic is not as viable. Of course if we have money to spare, there is no harm trying. We certainly won’t be making back what we paid but hopefully from the money we spent, we are able to capture a few visitors and have them hooked. Some will say it is worth it, some will argue that it is not, so it is very subjective. My take is, for a blog like this, we go for the “free” course, that is traffic from social sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, BloggingZoom, or even Entrecard.
Traffic from these sites are also “targeted” traffic ala those you get from targeted Ads or targeted keywords. They will only come if what they saw from your listings in those sites that you have submitted interests them. For example, while browsing through BloggingZoom’s listings, I never visits sites that writes about medicine or other topics not within my interest. I mostly keep an eye on listings with topics on blogging or something that concerns blogging and from these visits, I have added more than 20 sites to my feed reader, mainly because they write about something that I want to know more about.
Of course. there is no need to mention of the traffic that comes from Search Engines that are craved by everyone. Search traffics can be very relevant traffic if we are able to optimize our post with the proper keywords. They don’t need to be converted to leads though it will be fantastic if someone who came via Google finds our blog good enough to be subscribed on their first visit. The reason I said that is because if you have many killer keywords, you might get few thousands hits each day without you having to do anything whatsoever and different thousands will come everyday. So even if they don’t bookmark or subscribe to your blog, there will be other thousands coming.

Yeah I think there is a difference between SE and Social traffic. Social traffic tends to be more “flighty” eg SU traffic seems to be generally channel-hoppers. Whereas SE traffic is generally looking for something and so a lot easier to convert.
Then those who play with keywords would benefit from programs like Adsense lor?
