We did, and we created a Frankenstein. The monster that we created is now dictating the way we live our lives in the Net. We live by his rules now. Everything revolves around this ever mutating life form that we are no longer free to run our net lives the way we see fit.
When I was first introduced to the Net, there was no such thing as Google. My favorite Search Engine was Yahoo and her alternative was Alta Vista. It was in the later years when the this baby monster by the name of Google was borned and within a span of 3 short years or so, evolved into something so big that it spiraled out of control, obliterating every competition in it’s path into becoming the dictator of all who lives by the Net.
Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Being high up there with no opponents in sight to counter check it’s growth, Google-stein laid down his terms and netizens were forced to play along their rules or face extermination from the face of the Net. Those who played accordingly will be rewarded handsomely and those who were naughty were severely dealt with. They will be relegated to the throes of the unknown, never to see the light of the day ever again.
Then some years later, another something happened within the Net. Within the vast and border-less boundaries of the Net, a Sphere began to take shape. The growth of the Sphere was no less spectacular than that of Google and pretty soon, the whole Net was engulfed by this phenomena that we now know as the Blogosphere, inhibited by a large population of the Net who called themselves Bloggers. Very unfortunately, these bloggers, instead of checking the growth of the ever mutating monster called Google-stein, further nourished it with more health enhancing food that even before a baby Blogger can mature, they have learned that they must live along Google’s rules.
It became compulsory that every blogger pay homage to Google or suffer a fate so terrible that they will never grow out of their puberty, forever remaining what they were year after year until they succumb. Unlike normal humans, Bloggers prefers to grow old fast. The faster you grow the better a blogger you become, so every blogger knelt and kowtowed before the superior being called Google, patronizing his every word and vowing never to go against his rules.
Succumb they did. Every blog title they wish to publish must be carefully thought out so the Superior one can see clearly. Evey word they write must be clearly tagged out so He can make a good distinction. Every link that they link out must be of some relevance. Every link that they get in return must be true. Every Blogger must create a sitemap so He can find you. The endless list that must be learned and practiced vigorously goes on and on and on with no end in sight. And nobody dare make a sound, lest they get slapped.

At least they play fairer than Msoft. lol
Unlike Msoft where their Window OS is bundled together in your PC/notebook without your say, (unless you opt for Linux) Google did no such thing. lol
People still have the option of Yahoo and other search engine. The fact is, if you do a search, Google is indeed faster than others.
Google IS the Internet nowadays.
Many years ago they were championed as the underdog against giants like Yahoo!, Altavista and Infoseek. Fast forward a few more years and people’s opinions on Google will be as divided as how people perceive MS now
