Lots of bloggers find ways to get a link from A-List bloggers hoping that from there they will be able to tap into the vast readership base of those A-list bloggers. No doubt getting our blogs mentioned in a site like Problogger.net is something to be proud of, but does it really bring you a lot of trafic? Yes, for 1 to 3 days. Then it fizzles out and you are back to square one.

First of all, most bloggers set their homepage to show 3 to 5 post only, to speed up loading time. So if you were to be so fortunate to be mentioned in one of their post, the maximum effect will be felt on the day that post was posted and while that post is still sitting on the top. Most readers reads the latest post and leaves unless there were specific mentions that there are something more interesting further down. Normally there won’t be many who diggs into post that are more than a day old.

After the 3rd day, your precious name will be buried among his other posts, never to see the light of the day again. So will the minor torrent of traffic created on the first day that a A-list blogger benefit you? My experience tells me no. They come, take a look on what is so great about you that deserves a mention from those A-Listers, they go and never comes back again. The chances of them bookmarking your blog is almost nil if you have nothing much to offer.

In the end, I think what those SEO gurus have been preaching all along hold true. Content is the most important. If you have good, informative or entertaining contents in your blog, good enough to hook them on their first visit, they will remember you and maybe make second visit. They will keep coming back if you interests them on their every visit. No doubt this way of building traffic takes time, sometimes years, but at least what you get will be loyal readers and not those fly by night types.
