I have been kind of busy over the last few days, spending my time upgrading my blogs to WordPress 2.5. Like all major updates, I always feel uncomfortable, imagining some thing major will get screwed up, but as it is, WordPress 2.5 seems to be very accommodating. Only had a few issues with plugin incompatibility. One very very cool feature in WordPress 2.5 is the plugins section. If the plugin is not compatible, WordPress 2.5 simply refuse to activate it so it don’t crash your whole blog like before. The other so, so cool feature is the auto upgrade of plugins. Now you don’t need to download the updated version and go through he hassle of uploading and all those nonsense. Just use the auto function and WordPress 2.5 will download, unpack the zipped file, upgrade the plugin and re-activate it for you. That’s how convenient it is.
Anyway, I was suppose to try out the codes that Darran gave me to see if I can get a header image into a Theme that does not provide for one, but as it is, I still haven’t got around doing it. I had a blog that came up with some problems with the Archives and Links plugin after the upgrade. Heck, even the contact form isn’t working. I still can’t say whether it’s the plugin or whether it’s the Theme that I’m using so I left it at that. Maybe I’ll just change the Theme and see how it goes.
Most of the themes that works with WordPress 2+ should work with this new version I guess, but just to satisfy my curiosity, I went checking for WordPress 2.5 compatible themes. Maybe it’s still too early for all the theme developer to come up with new themes or upgrades, so there isn’t many around at the moment. Anyway, for those who wants to be a hundred percent on the safe side, you can check out WordPress dot org’s WordPress 2.5 Compatible Themes.

2.5 looks great, but doesn’t work as good as I thought
It lags more…

I do agree with Mike that it lags more. But there are some really features there.
“The other so, so cool feature is the auto upgrade of plugins. Now you don’t need to download the updated version and go through he hassle of uploading and all those nonsense.” That’s my favorite part of WP 2.5.
